Garmin Nautix projects nav data on your sunnies

The future has arrived as Garmin releases its Nautix hands-free in-view display for sunglasses

The Garmin Nautix is a like a mini wireless projector that attaches to most sunglasses and displays key navigational data including speed, heading, water depth and temperature, wind direction, engine rpm, and more directly onto the lens and in the corner of your field of vision.

The hands-free in-view display has been designed to enhance boaters’ situational
awareness while cruising, fishing and sailing. The compact device puts key information in your line of sight and on your sunglasses no matter what direction you are looking.

Compatible with onboard Garmin marine electronics, Nautix has the ability to receive information from up to 12 different data screens. It features eight hours of always-on battery life and a durable, weatherproof design built to withstand the harsh marine environment, Garmin adds.

Its glove- and wet-weather friendly touch panel can be used to rotate between data displays, and its adaptable mounting style allows it to attach on either arm of the glasses with a fully-adjustable arm and eyepiece for optimum display position.

Weighing approximately 30g, the Garmin Nautix has been designed with comfort in mind. Its integrated ambient light sensor and colour display ensure readability in all conditions, and it can be worn with polarised and prescription lenses.

Displaying a continuous view of critical boat data, could be beneficial for, say, cruising captains handing over the helm but wanting to maintain watch over vessel speed and other safe-boating information.

For anglers, you could actively scan the water for signs of fish or birds while seeing changes in water temperature or depth on your sunnies.

For sailors, you can view advanced racing data, including countdown timer, time to burn, and start line information.

The Garmin Nautix is compatible with the GPSMAP 7400 series and the new GPSMAP 8400 series. RRP from AU$599. More at this
Garmin website.
