Funding available for new Vic boating facilities

Recreational Boating Safety and Infrastructure 2017/18 funding program opens in Victoria

The Boating Industry Association of Victoria (BIAV) has welcomed the opening of Victoria’s premiere recreational boating safety and infrastructure grants program.

The Boating Safety and Facilities Program plays an important role in making boating safer and more accessible for all Victorians, the BIA says, adding that the marine industry in Victoria contributes $4.5 billion to the state economy and employs over 17,700 full-time employees.

Steve Walker, CEO of the BIAV, said the Association is pleased the Andrews State government has released the 2017/18 funding round to improve safety and access for Victoria’s 1 million recreational boaters.

“There are many boating facilities across the State requiring improvements and upgrades and I encourage all waterway and facility managers to apply before the close of the round.”

Applications for the 2017-18 round close on Thursday, March 22, 2018.

Boating and community groups, search and rescue organisations, local waterway authorities, government agencies and committees of management are encouraged to apply for grant-based funding under the Boating Safety and Facilities Program (BSFP).

The BSFP offers grant-based funding opportunities across four categories: Boating Infrastructure, Master Planning for Significant Boating Projects, Search and Rescue, and Aids to Navigation.

The Boating Industry Association of Victoria was formed in 1961 and is the peak body for the industry in the State.

The 2018 Melbourne International Boat Show will be run from June 28 to July 1 at Melbourne Exhibition Centre.
