Fuelarama at Newcastle Foreshore

Newcastle is set for some real speed action this weekend (April 27 and 28) when the Fuelarama Festival comes to town.

Featuring Round 1 of The 2013 Offshore Superboat Series, the weekend is set to be huge with a diverse range of free activities for the whole family.

The Offshore Superboat Championships -- described as V8 Supercars on water, will see three exciting classes of Supercats capable of speeds of up to 215km/h powered by up to 1000hp of V8 muscle racing in and out of Newcastle Harbour.

Saturday will be the first time in 20 years that the Offshore Superboats will take to a predetermined Kilo course in Newcastle Harbour to attempt to set not just Australian speed records but maybe even some world records. Kilo trials start at 12.00 noon and finish at 4.00pm, with heaps to do for the day.

On Sunday there will be two races in the Harbour starting at 10.00am with the craning of the boats into the water, and the racing starting in earnest from 11.00am, then the second race will begin at 1.00pm. All this can be viewed from the Foreshore of Newcastle Harbour, to the lighthouse and down the coast to Nobbys Beach.

As an added bonus, Newcastle Foreshore Park will be the location of the Boat & Leisure Show, where hundreds of boating brands including the latest in power, sail, multihull, ski, fishing, cruising, family boats and more will be on display along with a huge range of lifestyle products and services that reflect the marine and outdoors theme.

Wharf Road and the Foreshore carparks will be the centre of all things petrol with Fuelarama celebrating Newcastle’s car culture. Features will include a ute muster, Australian vs. American muscle car competition, show ‘n’ shine, hotrod and hot bike display.

Entry to this event is free but Variety collectors will be around asking for a gold coin donation to help the kids so organisers are asking visitors to dig deep on the day.
