There’s something to be said about owning a pre-loved emergency vehicle. That’s why this soon-to-be-retired Volunteer Marine Rescue Mackay RIB immediately caught our attention.
The six-year-old Mackay Rescue 6 is an 8.5-metre custom build by Brisbane-based Woody Marine Fabrications, engineered to handle the tough northern Queensland environment that was to become its workplace.
It is an aluminium boat with a Class 2C survey and safety equipment, and features solid foam-filled tubes, twin 300hp Suzuki outboard engines with 473 hours of run-time, and a 515-litre fuel tank.
It won’t come cheap, though. As is, and sitting on a Transtyle dual-axle trailer, it’s priced at $250,000.

If you’re another marine rescue service, though, it’s the internal fit-out that’s going to look attractive.
Across the console are Garmin-branded GPSmap 6012 multifunction display with autopilot, GSD 22 digital sounder and a GMR 18 HD radar. Communications is taken care of via ICom VHF and MF/HF marine radios, while a Class B AIS transceiver will ensure someone always knows where you are.

Other features include a 40-litre portable fridge, chemical toilet, searchlights, a Sampson post for towing, and shore power for conditioning the onboard batteries.
Out of the water, VMR Mackay says the boat was always stored in an enclosed shed.
VMR Mackay Rescue 6 is one of three vessels based at the service.

It is one of only a handful of former marine rescue boats for sale on boatsales.com.au.
