From the classifieds: 2012 Maritimo 440 Offshore Convertible

The 440 Offshore Convertible set a new standard for Maritimo’s three-stateroom bluewater cruisers and featured three staterooms below along with two bathrooms, and enough internal space to be practical without feeling cramped.

One of the big features of this boat was an uncluttered cockpit space, made possible by relocating the stairway to the flybridge from the cockpit to the saloon, giving internal access to the living space above.

This made the Maritimo 440 Offshore Convertible extremely attractive to particularly game fishers, who had all the room aft they needed to catch and tag a trophy pelagic.

Fishing was likely front of mind for the owner of this 2011-built, 2012-delivered Maritimo 440 Offshore Convertible listed on boatsales for a fraction of the price of ordering something that’s similarly sized but a lot newer.

While the interior won’t quite have the same sophistication as later models, featuring smaller hull windows and a sunken lounge feel to the saloon area, it still stacks up pretty well alongside more modern designs.

The galley is practical, featuring a twin-door refrigerator and freezer, a four-burner induction cooktop, a microwave oven, a Corian stone-look benchtop, stainless steel sink and drainer with mixer tap, and drawers for crockery, cutlery and pans.

The owner of this particular boat has spared no expense in turning the Maritimo 440 Offshore Convertible into a capable long-range cruiser by including a watermaker and ice maker, a washing machine and dryer, a tender davit for those trips between the anchorage and the beach, and an electric barbecue.

Meanwhile, fishing features include outrigger poles, a bait station, and drop-in rails with rod holders around the aft swim deck.

Powering this boat are twin 435hp Volvo Penta IPS 600 turbo-diesel pod drives that the owner says have been renovated in the last six months. The benefit of the IPS system is the amount of control that the skipper has over the boat while it is up on the plane, and when docking.

Below the waterline, the Maritimo 440 Offshore Convertible featured a variable deadrise hull, 4.95 metres wide, designed to cut through chop and swell forward, and lift the motor yacht onto the plane aft.

When new, the Volvo Penta drives were good for a top speed of around 32.2 knots, with fuel use hitting around 167L/h to give a range of about 310 nautical miles. Obviously, that will improve greatly at a 17.0-knot cruising speed, where fuel use will bump to around 82.0L/h with a range from the 1800-litre tanks of around 330nm.

Draft with the drive pods is 1.10 metres, with the displacement sitting at around 14,500kg.

The price? This owner is asking for just $775,000, or less than the cost of a similarly sized Gold Coast apartment, for all this luxury and bluewater cruising potential.
