It’s difficult to believe that Jeanneau’s Cap Caramat range – the name the French boat builder gives to its centre console models – is around 30 years old.
Originally built for fishing enthusiasts, the Cap Caramat formula has evolved over the years to become a crossover between a fishing boat and a high-performance dayboat, making it as versatile for the family as it is for chasing sportsfish.
Near the pinnacle of the range is the Jeanneau Cap Caramat 9.0 Walk Around. Measuring 8.6 metres in length overall, it’s an outboard-engined cruiser featuring fast lines on top and a stable hull below.
The boat is a fairly standard layout including a large sunlounge forward, a smart helm station offset to starboard, and a decent-sized aft cockpit backing onto a full-height walkthrough transom that also makes up the outboard engine pod.
Below decks are a forward bow lounge that converts into a large double-size bed, a fully enclosed bathroom with a head and separate shower, and aft is a large double bed built into the crawl space under the helm above.
We happened to stumble upon this particular one in the boatsales listings for just $299,990, and browsing the long list of options fitted to it, it should be nudging closer to $400,000.
The boat is equipped with a maximum of either a single 350hp outboard engine or twin engines of up to 250hp each. This particular boat is at the higher end of the horsepower rating, featuring a pair of 225hp Mercury V6 outboard engines with digital shift and throttle controls.
What’s it got? For starters, there’s soft teak-look U-Dek PCV flooring throughout, an enclosed cabin door, a premium hardtop over the helm, a higher level of trim, a 60-litre fridge and a hot water system complementing the freshwater tank, a barbecue grill in the cockpit, microwave oven and convection cooktop below, a four-speaker Fusion audio system, aft swim platforms, and an antenna for a TV.
On the technology side of things, the boat features twin 12.0-inch Raymarine Axiom Pro multifunction touchscreen chart plotters and fishfinders, a full lighting pack with underwater LEDs, and Zipwake trim tabs that help the Jeanneau Cap Caramat 9.0 WA ride more smoothly.
You also get 12 months of registration and all the safety gear you need to hit the water.
