Flats skiffs are far more common in the USA than Australia and are particularly popular traversing the shallow flats of the Florida Keys. However, they do have their place Down Under and subsequently a hand full of boutique custom Aussie boat builders are adding this style of boat to their inventory.
The downside is if you want one now it is rarely that easy. Australian custom boat builders have very long build times and importing a flats skiff from the US comes with its own long list of challenges, particularly taking current exchange rates into account.
Trawling the boatsales classifieds we recently stumbled across this new listing – an Integra Marine 5200 Custom Skiff that appears to tick plenty of boxes and is ready to go now.
Like many of its American-built cousins, the Integra is built using vacuum bag resin-infused composite construction methods that result in a super lightweight yet super strong hull that is very efficient.

For a 5.2-metre boat to reach speeds of more than 30kt with just 60hp is a testament to this naval architect-designed hull. It also features a very shallow draft – floating in less than 200mm of water you can access fishing spots that are inaccessible to other boats.
This boat was built with targeting impoundment barramundi and XOS flathead in skinny water in mind, but it would be equally at home chasing big Murray cod or even on the bream and bass tournament circuits.

A closer look at the boatsales ad for the full inventory on this particular boat is far too comprehensive to list everything here but some of the standout features include a 60hp Mercury four-stroke with less than 20 hours and full warranty; Easytow trailer; Garmin Force electric trolling motor; Garmin 12.0-inch fishfinder with Panoptix Livescope transducer and pole; two 12.0-inch Raymarine Element fishfinders/chartplotters with Hypervision sidescan; three 100Ah lithium-ion batteries; a live fish well; a live bait tank; a huge amount of underdeck storage; full Ultralon EVA decking and much more.
This boat is located on the Sunshine Coast and has current Queensland registration but the owner is happy to assist with interstate transport if required. Priced at $70,000 it is well below replacement cost and, more importantly, without the wait or the hard work.
