Sit back, because this is going to take a while. The 40-member strong Cairns Professional Game Fishing Association has released a promotional video focusing on the annual hunt for black marlin right on the doorstep of the Great Barrier Reef.
It’s an unashamed puff piece for the northern Queensland game fishing industry – there are those stunning panoramic cutaways, lazy big sky pans, plenty of slow-motion action and more unashamed whoops of joy than you’ve probably ever done in a lifetime – but the action, location and the fish are all spectacular.
Beneath all the action, though, there’s a serious message about the conservation efforts of the fleet of pro boats, motherships and deckies that heads out for the 100-odd days a year that the black marlin return to the northern Queensland waters – which also happens to be one of Australia’s most stunning places.
Make a coffee, grab a snack, settle back and just drink it all in.

Recreational boat insurer NM Insurance has announced it has changed underwriters from AIG to Zurich Financial Services.
A spokesperson for Zurich said NM Insurance marine policyholders would notice no change to their policy as a result of the move.
Boating insurance handled by NM Insurance includes pleasure craft, marine trades liability and boating industry commercial insurance.
“We are excited to be working with NM in an agreement that enhances our marine offering and allows us to enter new lines and products,” Zurich said.
“We each have a strong track record in Marine and a complementary set of core strengths that will ensure success.”
