It was a case of 'from Paris with love' for French couple Philippe and R'egine Jacquet after they took delivery of their new Maritimo M51 Cruising Motoryacht and promptly set about exploring our local waterways on a serious shakedown cruise.
The Parisian couple spent a week cruising Queensland with a skipper provided by Maritimo, before shipping their new boat and their adventurous selves back home to Europe.
"Some people might have thought that we were crazy to fall in love with an Australian boat, but we had dreamt for a long time to visit Australia and it was the right opportunity for us to secure our new boat and also see just a little bit of this beautiful country," Philippe was quoted as saying.
"We spent a week navigating Australia waters with a wonderful captain who was very friendly and professional and this allowed us to get familiar with our new yacht and work out any changes we wanted before she was shipped to Europe."
The Jacquet's new motoryacht landed in Genoa, Italy, in July. It then motored under its own steam to its home port of Porquerolles Island off the French Riviera. Wasting no time, the footloose French couple have now voyaged to Calvi and Saint Florent in Corsica and Portofino and other local islands in Italy.
Maritimo's International Sales and Marketing Manager, Greg Haines, said a local hand over like this gives overseas buyers a chance to visit the factory, get familiar with their new boat and partake in a comprehensive rundown of all the systems.
"For many it also provides the excuse to have a bucket list trip to Australia and add on some additional sightseeing while in this country," Haines adds.
According to the Maritimo press release, the Jacquets have found the M51 very comfortable at sea.
"The boat handles extremely well with the short waves of the Med and manoeuvres very well in tight spaces in port," Philippe was quoted as saying.
"The interior of the boat is very pleasant and the cabins are spacious. We were not sure if we had made the right choice with the wenge timber, but it looks magnificent and warm. The galley is just perfect.
"We will definitely be going back to Australia and since arriving back in France we have a feeling that we only dreamt this perfect journey," Philippe said.
