As far as fishing rigs go, the double Paternoster is a very famous one. It is basically a leader with two droppers attached for hooks and a loop on the bottom for your sinker.
I am a big fan of this two-shook rig for many reasons. Basically, it gives you the chance to present two different baits on two different size and even styles of hook.
This is a real advantage in the surf, for example, with a small long-shank hook baited with pipi ideal for whiting and bream, and a set of gangs with a whole pilchard perfect for bigger predators like tailor an salmon.
If one bait happens to fall off when casting or gets stolen by an eager-but-sneaky fish, you still have a fish-catching option in the water.
In a perfect world you may even catch two fish at once!
If you keep the hook leaders short (say around 15-20cm) and space them far enough apart that the hooks can't tangle, then this rig should offer you a lifetime of great fishing.
Give it a go on your favourite species and be sure to tie a few spares next time you are watching TV or surfing these sites.
Store the rigs in zip lock bags. That way they'll be ready to go when the action fires up on the water.
Yours in fishing,
Paul Worsteling.
