The new Barangaroo Foreshore development in Sydney Harbour was supposedly to return the harbour foreshore back to the public for future ongoing public use and amenity.
But the proposed regulations governing what a person can or cannot do in the area have just been released for public comment, and you guessed it, they have banned fishing from the entire Barangaroo reserve area.
The Recreatrional Fishing Alliance says that if fishers let this pass under Sections 34 and 37 it will be illegal to go fishing, take fish of any type, be in possession of fishing gear, and wade or swim in the waters along the reserve foreshore.
Recreational fishing is worth $3.5 billion dollars each year to the NSW economy, yet more and more fishing access is coming under threat and being reduced, especially around Sydney Harbour.
The RFA says that every Sydney angler should send a clear message to the NSW Government and the Barangaroo Authority that it is unacceptable and un-Australian to ban fishing families from such areas.
