With millions of anglers preparing to wet lines over the Easter, the average dangler can be up against it. Of course, catching a fish is often said to be a bonus of going boating. Just chilling with a bait in the water is therapy in itself. We get that.
But eventually the lack of action will see you pull stumps, scoot back to the ramp and walk in the door feeling a bit shortchanged. You’ve got the gear, now is the time to catch some fish. If not for the dinner table then just for that thrill from the tug on the other end of the line.
After travelling the globe and fishing for all manner of species using all kinds of techniques, Paul Worsteling from IFISH has distilled his fishing wisdom into the following Top 10 Holiday Fishing Tips.
Hopefully, this well-considered advice from the host of the popular IFISH TV show helps you catch more fish these Easter holidays.
1. Do the miles, get the smiles. Be prepared to fly, drive, walk just a little bit further than the majority of people.
2. Target a specific species. Don’t go fishing for fish. Target a species and make sure you have every aspect covered.
3. Fresh is best. Go out of your way to get the freshest bait available (or use the most lifelike lures).
4. Make every cast a winner. One well-placed cast is worth 100 poor casts.
5. Fish prime time. Dawn, dusk, tide changes, moon up, all these matter.
6. Go light. Use light leaders and light main lines to increase bites.
7. Berley, berley, berley. A little often should do the trick.
8. Don’t fish alone. Safety is your number one priority, plus it’s great to share the fun fishing with friends and family.
9. Be prepared. Check your boat, safety equipment, bearings, etc, in advance of you fishing holiday.
10. Have fun. It’s not just about catching fish. Enjoy the environment and special times with the people you care most about.
