Hanse is pitching its new 588, which recently floated for the first time, as the sailing yacht of tomorrow. A veritable floating health retreat, the big five-star cruising yacht has a 'wellness room' and a 'silent cabin'. There are also wine fridges if you prefer merlot to mediation and, moreover, a powerful sail plan for getting away from the rat race.
"We’re also really excited about the new Hanse 588 — the first of the new Hanse 8 series. New features include a powerful new sail plan, more windows than ever and a newly designed ultra-modern interior. The first images have just been released and it looks simply magnificent," said Mary Bickley from local importer Windcraft.
Looking sharp in the first few photos seen above, the 588 from the pen of Judel Vrolijk and Co. boasts great volume, up sizing and accommodation, but the German yard has also added ease of handling to this 19.80t displacement yacht (that's with the standard keel 2.60m, also L-keel 2.85m, shoal 2.25m draft).
The powerful sail area of 157sq m with self-taking jib or 208sq m with reacher is flown from a 25.85m triple-spreader mast. There’s a second forestay for long distance cruising and hydraulically driven furling system.
The flat deck is said to be a striking design feature to generate a low and clean line. Yet it conceals a lot of volume, including, back aft, a large dinghy garage for a Williams Tender 280.
The garage can be accessed from the swimming platform, via comfortable stairs, integrated into the deck. There are integrated grill/bbq, sink and freezer, and other cockpit options.
The option of a T-Top with built-in spotlights and entertainment system adds to the functionality; the mainsheet runs on top of the T-Top, which is something we’re seeing more of these days.
RELAXED INTERIOR
The air-conditioned interior goes further, with a skylight almost 3sq m in the large panoramic roof with opening windows illuminating the salon.
Six hull windows on each side provide ample of light and are placed at eye level at the seating areas. Headroom is 2.15m throughout.
Whether you choose the free-standing island kitchen or nautical L-shaped pantry, both options feature an elegant wine bar. The navigation table on the port side can be equipped with a wine cooler, a freezer or an additional fridge.
For that relaxed feeling, there are two opposing and convertible U-couches, with a large table on the port side can be lowered and converted.
The bow area can be equipped with two double cabins, with full or flexi-bulkhead.
ACCOMMODATION OPTIONS
There are lots of options in the cabin layouts, with three to six cabins possible, special owner's configurations and more social plans with crew quarters in the bow.
The portside cabin in the stern has two layout versions: one with the bed in the direction of the bow and one to the stern. Both aft cabins are said to be large and illuminated by ample of natural light.
The large room on the portside can be build in three different layouts from bunk bed cabin, walk-in storage space to wellness bathroom. Yes, wellness.
The Silent Master Cabin filling the bow is promoted as an innovation in yacht building. The master cabin is specially insulated to shield against noise, engineering and pumps are relocated remotely.
Overall, the new Hanse 588 offers an incredible amount of 72 possible layout combinations. The new interior is characterised by subtle curves and freestanding furniture.
There are different keel and mast options and an endless choice of colours and materials for individuality. The new Hanse 588 celebrated its debut in September at the 2016 Cannes Boat Show.
Locally, Team Windcraft is Hanse’s biggest global dealer in the larger boats and is consistently responsible for seven-eight per cent of The Hanse Group’s turnover, it says, adding that this is an impressive achievement considering the small population of Australia and New Zealand compared to the USA and Europe. Also, every year for the past 18 years, Windcraft has taken three-four per cent of the market share from the other mainstream brands, the importer claims.
