Family-friendly baby cruiser lands with a $191K price tag and the promise of easy handling
The Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 319, the all-new baby of the French brand’s eighth-generation Sun Odyssey line-up, is about to arrive in Australia.
The entry-level keelboat’s Australian distributors, Australian Marine Network, said the first of the 9.8-metre sail-driven cruisers would arrive late this week. The design, which incorporates a modern hull with a sharp chine that Jeanneau says will give it more stability and performance, and a greater control via a twin-rudder set-up, is priced from $191,500.
The Delphina-built 319 will complement the Sun Odyssey 490 that was given its global reveal at August’s Sydney Boat Show, the 440 and the recently announced 410. The 319 arrived too late to go on display in Sydney.
The compact 319 is optimised for family cruising. It has a wheel fitted as standard in the cockpit, and below the high-step coachhouse are two enclosed cabins, galley, and a separate head with shower – all with decent standing headroom.
The ocean-rated cruiser can also come in fixed or shallow-draught keel configurations.
Jeanneau offers the Sun Odyssey 319 in a number of sail plans including in-mast furling main, bowsprit for asymmetrical spinnakers and Code Zero, and also symmetrical spinnaker gear. A performance pack upgrades the sailplan to a triradial cut in Mylar/Taffetas, German mainsheet system, and an adjustable backstay. Two keel versions are available – a standard keel or a winged shoal swing keel version.
The Jeanneau Sun Odyssey range has been a popular sailboat in Australia. The 349 has snared about 50 sales since its introduction to the Australian market in 2015, while the recently introduced 440 has also already found a handful of new owners.
