Furrion, a company more known more for its cutting-edge TVs, stoves and fridges than its sea legs, has unveiled a voice-activated 78-foot motor yacht concept at the temple of geek, the 2019 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.
The “virtual concierge" voice recognition system, called Angel to make it a bit more human, also uses the technology built into it to recognise a face, and then adjust everything to that person’s liking.
The technology is built into the Adonis, a 78-foot motor yacht dreamed up by Turkish shipwrights Numarine. Other more familiar Furrion technology virtually built into the equally virtual floating palace includes cutting-edge audiovisual and monitoring systems, cameras, and a comprehensively kitted-out kitchen.
Furrion appears to be making a pitch to have more of its products built into boats, including its marine-rated solar power products.
“Angel is always ready to assist in ways we once only dreamed possible,” Furrion said in a statement obviously aimed at everyone who has never picked up a phone and ordered from room service before.
“Feeling hungry? Angel can send your requests to the kitchen, including reminding them of dietary restrictions that go along with your profile and can order groceries or supplies that might be needed as well.”
As Angel learns more about you, Furrion says the system can find you things to do at your destination, order clothes from a favourite retailer, or book a restaurant.
“Angel is designed to simplify the trip so you have more time to immerse yourself in your surroundings and soak up the experience,” Furrion said.
“In addition to being your virtual concierge, Angel can control the majority of electronics in your environment, including lights, blinds, media and climate. She learns your habits and makes suggestions to the program.
“Angel learns and recognises the sound of your voice to tailor the environment to your preferences; for example, if you happen to prefer the blinds up, you can ask Angel to do that, and over time, she will just recognise that it is you in the room and make that adjustment.
“Angel will deliver all notifications, calls, messages and reminders. She can even help improve your health. With built-in equipment, Angel can monitor your weight and even analyse the moisture levels in your skin. As Furrion continues to develop Angel, more features along this line will be added.”
The Adonis is what Numarine says is the “crown jewel” of its concept fleet.
“Furrion's hardware and software solutions, combined with prestige boat building, gave birth to a masterful blend of artistry, design and advanced technology,” Furrion said.
“This is the first time ever that a yacht has appeared at CES, and it marks an expansion into more marine concepts at the show. Adonis is a luxury smart yacht – a concept that combines luxury with futuristic innovation and artificial intelligence.
“This yacht houses the best of Furrion's technology, from audiovisual electronics, kitchen appliances, camera observation and monitoring.”
Adonis is the third transport concept released by Furrion. Previous attempts to grab the hearts and wallets of high-end customers have included the Limitless fifth-wheeler pulled by a prime-mover concept called Hercules, and a motorhome called Elysium complete with a hot tub and a helicopter.
