First Absolute 50 Fly in Australia

Italian boatbuilder launches its first Absolute 50 Fly with Volvo Penta IPS600s

Absolute Yachts released its first 50 Fly, a new three-cabin motoryacht with high-volume interior, at the recent 2016 Sydney International Boat Show.

Underscoring the modern way of propelling 40-60 footers today, the Italian company chose Volvo Penta’s Inboard Propulsion System, the modest 435hp IPS600s models, to utilise the drive’s high power-to-weight ratio on this light but strong flybridge cruiser.

"We needed an engine that would provide the best performance for our yacht, while also offering low fuel consumption, reduced noise and vibration... and with a minimal ecological impact with low emissions," says Mr Cesare Mastroianni (left in photo), Vice President Sales and Chief Commercial Officer, from Absolute Yachts.

"We have found the ideal propulsion drive with Volvo Penta’s IPS," he adds.

Not that the Volvo Penta/Absolute synergy is something new, mind you, as this Italian yard has a close working relationship with the Swedish engine maker and all its boats are Volvo Penta IPS-powered.

At rest or underway, the new 50 Fly has been designed to combine functionality and comfort in a compact boat that can accommodate up to six guests in its three cabins, while a fourth supplementary cabin can house an additional crew member back in the transom. The interior volume is boosted by the compact IPS installation.

The IPS600s, each producing 435hp at a rated 3500rpm, are modest power that Volvo Penta attributes with some big gains on this boat, including up to 30 per cent better fuel consumption than a traditional inboard shaft engine.

The Stage III/Tier 3 D6 engine used for the IPS600 also reduces particulate, NOx and hydrocarbon emissions.

Promoting an easy driving experience, Volvo Penta adds a joystick to its standard controls. But the company's latest ‘Easy Boating’ options are designed to make leisure boating even simpler, safer and more enjoyable.

Optional 'Easy Boating' components include customisable Glass Cockpit controls, e-Key Remote, additional Joysticks, and a new Battery Management System.

"Absolute Yachts has been a great customer of ours for many years, using different IPS drives in their yachts," says Nicola Pomi, marine sales manager at Volvo Penta.

"We’re delighted they’ve chosen the IPS600 as the best propulsion system for their new 50 Fly yacht and look forward to a continuing relationship.
