Fire at Marina Mirage

Boats destroyed in early morning inferno

Fire has destroyed three luxury boats at Queensland’s Marina Mirage. Two of the boats have sunk and another is threatening to go under according to Queensland Fire and Rescue.

Firefighters were called to three 40 foot boats moored at the marina which were “well-involved” in fire at Sea World Drive, Main Beach at about 2.30am this morning (Jan 28).

Six fire crews attended and wore breathing apparatus to extinguish the fires, as well as completing searches to ensure there were no people on board.

Queensland Fire's Todd Murray says it has been a difficult operation for the firefighters on the scene.

"Limited water supplies, limited access. We were very lucky. We were able to isolate it just as the three boats that were initially on fire," he said.

There was some chemical spill from the boats and a bund wall has been set up to stop this spreading. A fire investigator will attend the scene today.
