Ferretti wows Miami

...And announces a stunning new 65-footer!

The 26th Annual Miami Yacht and Brokerage Boat Show marked another milestone for the Ferretti Group, one of the world’s big players in the construction of luxury motor yachts, with the biggest new-yacht inventory in the show. Ferretti Group had no fewer than 25 luxury motoryachts on display.

One boat that the Ferretti Group is very excited about is the new Ferretti Yacht 650.

This boat is the first in a series of models that Ferretti says are bound to set a new standard for the “Yachts” product line below 70 feet.

The new project draws inspiration from the Ferretti 620, one of the company’s best sellers, from which it has inherited some of the most widely appreciated features, like the waterline and the layout below deck.

The 650 features a three-cabin, three-head layout with the option of a skipper’s cabin aft.

The company tells us that below decks on the 650 benefits from increased light thanks to new, larger windows and hatches. The design also provides better sound insulation characteristics throughout the living quarters.

The systems that operate at night (like the generator and air-conditioning) are installed at the extreme aft end of the engine room. This means that the distance between these systems and the owner’s bed is around seven metres, with four soundproof bulkheads and three rooms (the skipper’s cabin, the tank and the owner’s bathroom) in between.

The full-beam master stateroom features a queen-size island bed, full-width bathroom and a walk-in wardrobe. There’s also a sofa and big windows so you can enjoy the views in private.

Up on the main deck, a glazed door leads from the cockpit and reveals a true open space forward to the windshield. Stepping in, the galley on the starboard side has been strategically positioned to connect the saloon to the cockpit.

In the standard version, the galley is completely open and simply surrounded by two peninsular units near the entrance. This creates a large bar area opening to the cockpit and forward to the dining and living areas, further contributing to a sense of volume and making living onboard a breeze.

Up on the bridge, the second helm station is central with the co-pilot seat to port. Behind it is the bar area featuring a barbecue and a sink. Further aft is a big C-shaped lounge and a large dining table that can seat up to eight.

The 650 in standard configuration is powered by a pair of Caterpillar C18s of 1015hp which give a cruising speed of 27 knots and a maximum speed of 30.5 knots, claims Ferretti. The optional 1150hp engines can apparently push the yacht to a cruising speed of 30 knots and a top speed of 33 knots.

The range of the Ferretti Yachts 650 is quoted as being 275 and 245 nautical miles, respectively, at maximum speed, and 290 and 270 nautical miles respectively, at cruising speed.
