One of the Northern Territory’s great anglers and personalities, Col Cordingley, has dies aged 74.
Mr Cordingley arrived in Territory from Perth following Cyclone Tracy and made the Top End his home. He fished the Daly River for barramundi and claimed many victories in competitions over the years. He will be remembered as one of the ‘nice guys’ of the Top End fishing scene and, even after he retired from competitive fishing two-years ago, was still often seen at comps during the fishing season.
Col’s influence spread from simply fishing the rivers and estuaries of the Territory to behind the scenes work. He contributed to the development of recreational angling in the Territory as past President (1983-1985) and Life Member (1996) of The Darwin Game Fishing Club, and he had a long association with the Amateur Fisherman’s Association of the NT.
As a pro angler, Col was often seen in fishing magazines, in tournaments such as the Barra Nationals, Barra Classic and the Kakadu Barra Klash. He shared his knowledge of fishing and was often giving talks on fishing the Top End and on the ABC radio show Tails from the Tinnie.
He will be sadly missed on the Northern Territory fishing scene and by fishermen all over the country. Tight lines Col...
