Evoy launches Breeze 120hp electric outboard motor

Entry-level outboard motor joins Evoy’s growing battery-powered showroom

Electric outboard motor maker Evoy has launched 120hp inboard and outboard versions of its technology that can deliver bursts of up to 185hp on demand.

The new 400-volt motor, dubbed the Breeze, is the smallest level of outboard performance that Evoy plans to roll out, with versions 300hp and even 400hp planned.

To coincide with the launch of the Breeze, Evoy’s first outboard motor, the 400-volt Gale that was launched last year, will be re-rated from 150hp to 200hp. A 200hp inboard motor is expected to join Evoy’s line-up late this year.

It’s also the first outboard motor from the Norwegian group, following on from the launch of the 800-volt, 800hp Hurricane inboard motor that under testing was able to cover around 30 nautical miles while doing 40 knots, and a top speed of 55 knots.

The Breeze weighs around 90kg in its inboard form, while the outboard version weighs 190kg, around 20kg to 30kg lighter than a conventional outboard engine producing the same level of high-end performance – no one drives at WOT all the time.

Game-changing technology

Evoy said the introduction of the 120hp Breeze was a “game-changer” for the boating industry.

“The release of the Breeze is a very important milestone for us, addressing a major void in the electric propulsion market,” Evoy chief executive Leif Stavøstrand said.

“Since the beginning of Evoy there has been a big ask for this size, so we are really excited to have it available.

“Since it fits in both smaller planing hull boats and also larger displacement boats, this is a true game-changer, where we allow a whole new segment of boaters to go fossil fuel-free and enjoy the silence of irresistible boating.”

However, if you think going electric is the right choice for you, you'll have to join the end of the queue; Evoy said its entire summer production of the 120hp Breeze had already either been pre-ordered or sold.
