Evinrude launches 10-year warranty

Evinrude claims outboard industry-first 10-year warranty

Evinrude has increased its factory warranty to 10 years on its outboards from 25-300hp. The new warranty, announced at the weekend’s Melbourne Boat Show, is claimed to be an industry first.

But there is a catch – at this stage, the 10-year warranty is only offered on outboards purchased at key events through the Aussie winter boat show season.

Evinrude outboards sold via dealers away from the shows will be subject to the brand’s existing five-year warranty only.

The warranty upgrade deal was current at last weekend’s Melbourne Boat Show. It will come into effect again at the Sydney boat show which opens, back at its traditional Darling Harbour home, on August 2.

Evinrude has previously offered the “10-year warranty event” to customers in the USA. It claims it’s the first time a 10-year warranty has been offered Down Under.

In addition to the Evinrude outboard coverage, the US engine manufacture’s local distributor and boat partner Telwater, manufacturer of Quintrex and Stacer craft, will match the offer on boat and trailer packages sold at the upcoming Sydney boat show.

This means purchasers of Quintrex/Evinrude and/or Stacer/Evinrude packages will receive 10-year “Factory backed” warranty on their full boat, motor and trailer package.

Telwater Director of Sales & Marketing, Damien Duncan, said the offer added “extreme value and showed high confidence in the quality of the products”.

“Telwater chose to work with Evinrude, as we believe it is the best outboard on the market and offers customers leading innovation in the marine industry. Now, we can offer industry leading warranty coverage,” Duncan stated.

Even though the Evinrude 10-year warranty is offered as part of a retail campaign, it represents a major step-change for the outboard marketplace, Down Under.

Since Jan 1, 2018, Mercury has offered conditional “3 + 3 = 6 year” warranty on recreational outboards. Most other outboard makers peg their four-stroke outboard warranty at four or five years, offering conditional extensions at extra cost.
