Evinrude muscles up
Held during October at Surfers Paradise, amid all the buzz and mayhem surrounding the Indy car races, Evinrude showed they too have a formidable powerful performance.
All outboard manufacturers claim to be the best in specific areas and Evinrude is no exception, especially quoting their two-stroke engines have low emissions, high power - principally exceptionally low-end torque from the start - plus fewer moving parts, resulting in lower maintenance and costs.
As an introduction, Evinrude presented their prime features, like a no break-in period, an Electronic Management Module for precision control of fuel, plus E-TEC direct injection.
Presentations with generous pizazz are great, but the proof is in the demonstrations.
E-TEC 2007 launched into top gear with a 'hands-on' test of many Australian boat makes, all powered by E-TEC outboards. We were not disappointed.
Torque was enough to press the occupants against their seats, as the outboards responded smoothly and powerfully at all throttle settings.
A highlight was their new product shown with considerable excitement, then deflation, as Evinrude announced their flagship product is not released even in USA, so it will be early 2008 before we show the must-have features to readers. It's worth the wait.
Evinrude E-TEC outboards are certainly strong candidates for your current or next boat.
