Hong Kong-based electric boat motor specialist propulsion has launched an all-new range of X Series outboard motors providing a choice of 12kW (16hp), 20kW (27hp) and 40kW (56hp) of performance.
The new modular design – each product looks like a shrunken-down or up-sized version of the same motor – launches what ePropulsion says is an “intelligent and integrated platform” aimed at boaters looking for “a quieter, cleaner boating experience”.
The new X Series outboard motor range was launched at METSTRADE, Europe’s largest convention for the recreational boating industry.
According to ePropulsion, the X Series motors have a powertrain efficiency of 88.2 percent, meaning most of the battery’s electricity flowing through the motor is turned into forward momentum.

Key to this is the development of a new five-bladed propeller range for the X Series line-up that has introduced more than 20 changes to optimise their hydrodynamics.
The new motor range also introduces digital shift and throttle controls and integrated electric steering.
“This refined steering mechanism is more than a simplification—it opens the door to Advanced Driving Assistance Systems that enhance safety and redefine aquatic navigation,” ePropulsion said.
“Cutting-edge driving assistance features like ‘Position Hold’ and ‘Heading Hold’ and ‘360 Motions’ offer additional safety.”
The new motor range also has allowed openers to stay connected with the boat that the motor is fitted to, allowing them to access real-time boat and system status with “advanced monitoring, reporting and tracking”.
According to ePropulsion, the new X40 motor is built to the IP67 waterproofing standard, meaning it is fully sealed against water and dust. You should also get plenty of use out of it; the working life is estimated at 5000 hours or more than 200 days of continuous operation.
No mention was made of pricing, or when the new X Series range is likely to launch to the market. ePropulsion also produces the 48-volt E Series range of lithium-ion battery systems to use with its products.
