The campaign by the Boating Industry Association of Victoria to make recreational boat users aware of the damage caused by imported marine pests has been recognised with a second major environmental award.
The campaign won the United Nations Association of Australia's 2009 World Environment Day award in the Marine and Coastal Management category.
This follows the BIA's recent success in winning the Victorian Coastal Award for Excellence for the same project -- which was overseen by BIA project manager Karen Bennett.
The UN awards recognise those individuals and bodies that display innovation and dedication in projects managing or restoring the environment.
The Marine Pest Project sought to educate angling and boating clubs to the dangers to all Victorian waters of those imported marine pests that are discharged into Port Phillip Bay by visiting ships.
