The first million-dollar sportyacht from Elandra Yachts has been launched at Coomera on the Gold Coast. Initial sea trials confirmed the luxurious boat's anticipated performance, stability and nimble handling expectations, says the emerging new boatbuilder.
According to Elandra Yachts Managing Director Luke Durman (pictured right), the Elandra 53 is "everything we envisioned back in late-2012 and began building in March last year."
He said the team had laboured long and hard to bring the shared dream to reality.
"We are a small group and every person has given an extraordinary effort to build a boat that is as close to perfection as we could have hoped," he said.
As the boat was being prepared for launch, Durman welcomed newly appointed Victorian agent Scott O'Hare (second photo, left) to the Elandra yard.
"Everything about this boat is more than I had expected," said O'Hare during an inspection as the boat was undergoing final fitout for the official launch. "I have not seen so much space on a boat this size before. I was pleasantly surprised at how significant so many of the dimensions are... the walkaround decks, headroom, cockpit space and forward cabin are all class-leading.
"The Elandra can only be described as tasteful, stunning, clever," O'Hare said, adding that the upper and lower lounges in the main saloon are "genius."
"I've not seen a boat in this size range that has achieved two lounge areas in the saloon. It means that, under way, guests will join the skipper up forward in stylish surrounds. Then, at anchor, everyone simply adjourns to the lower lounge opposite the galley or out in the cockpit.
"This space is one massive entertaining area with the folding doors pushed to one side. I have not seen this much space on anything less than a 60-footer before."
Durman said O'Hare brings a strong marine pedigree to Elandra's sales force.
"Scott has been in the marine industry for a long time and has been around boats since he was a boy," he said. "Scott's family owns a marina in Melbourne so he is very well connected with the boating community. We look forward to delivering an Elandra to Port Phillip Bay in the not too distant future!"
Durman said the Elandra 53 will undergo sea trials and certification over the next week before a series of client test runs.
"There has been extraordinary interest in the boat for a long time and we are now delighted that we can now demonstrate her to the world."
The Elandra 53 will be on display at next month's Gold Coast International Marine Expo. Elandra Yachts website is www.elandrayachts.com.
