Elan launches new Impression 40

Comfortable performance cruising yacht headed Down Under

Elan gave European customers their first look at the latest in the Impression range of performance cruising yachts, the Impression 40, at the recent Biograd Boat Show.

Elan says the new model is "an impressively fast cruiser" with well thought-out design and layout which we’re told will provide a pleasurable experience for her owners, whether sailing offshore or at anchor in a secluded bay.

Built using Elan's vacuum-assisted infusion lamination technique, the hull has been kept light yet strong in the key stress areas that require extra laminate. This makes the boat suitable for blue-water cruising and ensures good performance on all points of sail.

The Impression 40 interior is spacious and airy with abundant natural light thanks to the deck saloon and hull windows. With her contemporary design, Elan says the interior offers "quality and comfort superior to her class".

The saloon features a large settee to starboard and another on the port side, with a generous L-shaped galley to satisfy even the most demanding chefs. The unique flip-up chart table allows full access to the settee berth when not in use.

Accommodation is said to be comfortable with spacious cabins fore and aft. There are four interior layout options to choose from.

According to Matt Hayes, Managing Director of the Australian Elan agent Performance Cruising Yachts, Elan has managed to produce a yacht that is voluminous and comfortable below decks yet which is easy to sail and gets the owners to their destination quickly.

"It's not an easy equation to get right," says Hayes, "But with renowned British yacht designer Rob Humphreys responsible for performance and the European Elan design team doing the interiors, they really have nailed it with the Impression 40."

The new yacht offers a wide range of optional extras both on deck and below, allowing new owners to customise the boat for their intended use. For example a furling main is an option if the boat is likely to be sailed shorthanded, while electric power winches, sophisticated electronics package and extra creature comforts inside will add to ones sailing enjoyment.
