Power boats with multiple decks don't draw a second glance but there were a lot of interested spectators in Gdansk, Poland, last week when Sunreef Yachts dropped the 102 foot, double-deck cruising catamaran Ipharra into the water for the first time.
The yacht is ranked by Sunreef as the first superyacht to be built by their yard and claim the all-aluminium monster is the second largest sloop catamaran in the world.
After 10 years of successfully developing a range of luxury, custom-made catamarans like Ipharra, Sunreef has launched a new range of fast cruising cats from 80 to 150 feet. Ipharra, which has already had its mast stepped, is due for delivery to its new owner in the middle of this month. He plans to use the yacht for luxury charters in the Mediterranean.
The first of Sunreef's new production range will be the Sunreef 80 Ultimate (second image) -- a lightweight carbon fibre vessel with stepped hull chines in its sleek hulls to give it exceptional high performance.
With eye-catching reversed bows and a short superstructure, the 80 Ultimate will have a streamlined look that will be heightened if the optional flybridge is deleted.
The yacht will be fitted with two retractable wind generators and solar panels to improve its drain on fossil fuels. The mast will be located towards the middle of the boat, rather than towards the bows, and the designers expect a top speed of more than 20 knots under sail.
Two external helm stations will be placed on each side of the cockpit to ensure the helmsman a clear view. A third helm station will be located inside for rough weather. The cockpit will feature comfortable seating and a dining table for 12 as well as storage for a range of water toys.
The interior accommodation will be flexible and will be modified to each owners choice. The master cabin will be located in the forward section of the main level, ahead of the saloon, while guests and crew will be accommodated in the hulls.
