Dongara to build bespoke 25-metre luxury catamaran

Buyer walks in off the street and commissions a high-speed luxury cruising catamaran

West Australian commercial shipwright Dongara Marine has teased an all-new recreational boat project – a 25-metre luxury catamaran.

Already christened “La Bella Cherie”, the catamaran is a bespoke leisure vessel commissioned by an unnamed private buyer who approached Dongara mid-way during this year.

“Working closely with the clients and Southerly Designs, we developed a liveaboard vessel concept tailored to the specific requirements, which included high speed for quick transits to favoured cruising grounds,” Dongara said.

It said the client focus and custom design and build capability “led to a contract being signed within weeks of the initial approach”.

La Bella Cherie features two guest cabins located in each of the hulls with accommodation for up to eight people in king- and queen-size beds, as well as shared bathrooms.

The owner’s full-beam master suite is located on the main deck level.

Dining, recreation

“The remainder of the main deck is fitted out for a combination of indoor and outdoor dining and recreation,” Dongara said.

“Transom platforms and a lifting tender storage/swim platform between the hulls provide easy access to and from the water for the full range of watersports.”

Powering the catamaran are high-speed waterjets capable of reaching an estimated 40 knots, but with a cruising speed of around 30 knots. The design maximises range with the largest fuel capacity it can allow.

Another benefit of the waterjet is that the catamaran is expected to draw only about a metre of water, meaning it can navigate and anchor close to the shoreline “for beach and other land excursions”.

Lightweight design

Dongara said La Bella Cherie’s hull would be built from aluminium, while the superstructure will use a full carbonfibre-reinforced main deck cabin and fully enclosed flybridge.

“This is an exciting project for us,” Dongara Marine managing director Rohan Warr said.

“We look forward to providing the client with a vessel that will be the source of great enjoyment and wonderful memories, as well as demonstrating how well our skills transfer to the custom motor yacht arena.”

No other details were released.
