Dockmate adds more engines, new features to wireless controls

Remote control specialist Dockmate expands its options for wireless yacht maneuvering

Dockmate has expanded its list of compatible engines and rolled out even more functionality, including giving users even more control in densely packed marinas.

CAN bus networks now compatible with the Dockmate system now include MTU and Yanmar VC20, and Twin Disc marine transmissions using the EC300 fly-by-wire throttle system.

Users can now also connect their Suzuki Precision Control fly-by-wire throttle system to Dockmate when configured with Dockmate’s analogue universal speed control interface.

“The Dockmate engine universal speed control Interface also enables smooth, fully proportional and variable speed throttle control on a wide variety of analogue engine controls,” Dockmate said.

“This type of engine throttle control allows the user to increase the engine RPMs to have a greater and safer amount of control of the boat in a marina when there is current or wind and idle speed is simply not enough to properly manoeuver the vessel.”

Slow mode expanded

In another innovation, Dockmate has expanded its Slow Mode software system to work with high-performance motor yachts.

“For most applications, a yacht’s idle speed is easy to manage, but for manoeuvring in exceptionally crowded harbours, boats with powerful engines are often fitted with some kind of slow mode feature for greater control at low speeds,” it said.

“Rexroth and MAN use trolling, Caterpillar’s SPM reduces the engine RPMs, and Volvo Penta’s low-speed mode uses a combination of both.

“Dockmate’s Slow Mode software option enables users to activate and deactivate the boat’s respective slow mode.”

The new compatibility and modes come in the wake of Dockmate recently launching a new wireless joystick system that allows users to steer the boat using a fixed joystick, or remove it and use the system wirelessly.

When not used as a fixed joystick, the Dockmate’s wireless charging pad can be used to charge a Qi-compatible smartphone.
