There's an old saying: if it's free it's too good to be true. Unfortunately, some boat thieves don't subscribe to the theory, stealing a boat that was parking on a Sydney street that had been the target of some unscrupulous signage.
NSW Police say some time between 8pm on Monday November 21, 2016, and 7.30am on Tuesday, November 22, 2016 unknown person/s have stolen a white 4.8 metre Huntsman half-cabin boat, with 115hp Evinrude outboard motor (as pictured above).
Boat theft occurs all the time, sadly, but this trailerboat parked on busy Pittwater Road near Riverview Parade in North Manly appears to be the target of a hate campaign that included, well, it included a sign saying "Free Boat".
Unknown person/s have placed signs on the boat saying "FREE BOAT" and "MOVE YOUR BOAT". One can only speculate that someone has driven past and thought it was a bona fide directive, hitched up the boat, and driven away with it.
If you have seen the boat or took it thinking it was free please contact Dee Why Police Station on Ph (02)9971 3399 or Crime stoppers on 1800 333 000. Hopefully, the poor owners get their boat back for Christmas.
Boat theft, particularly with trailerable craft parked in the streets, is a national problem. For more information about securing your trailerboat see this boat and trailer security checklist.
