Destination Sydney Harbour

Some 18 marinas on Sydney Harbour open their doors and offer visitors' berths

Minister for Roads and Ports Duncan Gay has announced the introduction of new marina destinations for boaters on Sydney Harbour.

“Everybody loves a day out on the harbour but for many recreational boaters it can often be a challenge to find somewhere to hop off, take a break, or grab something to eat or drink,” Minister Gay said.

“We’ve worked closely with our stakeholders to find 18 commercial marinas who are opening their doors to the boating public under the new Sydney Harbour Destinations Plan," he said.

Marinas in popular destinations like Rose Bay, Gladesville and Mosman will be accessible for people who are having a day out on the water.

“We’ve produced an interactive map to show people where these marinas are located and what facilities are available at www.rms.nsw.gov.au/bdp.

“The marinas are receiving commercial concessions to provide access to facilities including water and fuel, cafes, toilets, pump-out and other marine services.

“Under the Sydney Harbour Destinations Plan, which I released (November 25) we will continue to work with other marinas to expand the number of destinations and identify new areas where we can improve the boating experience.

When you’re out on the water, look for the bright green 'Boating Destination Marina' banner which will be displayed in prominent locations at all of the participating marinas.

Blue banners marked 'Destination Berth' will be used to show boaters exactly where to tie their boat up.

“This is about making a great boating experience on the Harbour, even better,” Minister Gay said.

People are also encouraged to ring ahead, particularly at smaller marinas which may only be able to accommodate a limited number of vessels at a time.

House rules such as how long visiting boats can stay will be left up to each marina.
