Inclement weather, be it rain, wind or excessive heat, can sometimes make offshore fishing an uncomfortable experience, so Brisbane-based CruiseCraft has come up with a hardtop for its popular Explorer 685 vessel.
The hardtop is a two-piece moulded unit with a smooth interior liner that makes keeping it clean easy. The two pieces of the hardtop are bonded together to form a very stylish shell.
Boaters will have the choice of two hardtop variations as well as the standard SST Targa Bimini when they order a new Explorer 685. The hardtop can be ordered with a full-height glass windscreen that extends from the front of the dash to the underside of the hardtop moulding. The full height glass work also extends along both sides of the cockpit with sliding panels to allow an airflow when it is needed.
Because full height glass might be too hot in northern Queensland or Western Australia, the hardtop can also be fitted with the standard windscreen and CruiseCraft’s sail track system for clears. The sailtrack allows the clears to be opened to provide a breeze to flow to the helm while still providing protection from the sun and rain.
Both variations have laminated front glass, stainless steel hand rails and rod racks. The full height glass version is fitted with a single windscreen wiper. Extra protection from the elements can also be provided with the optional SST sliding extension that allows a canopy to be extended over the cockpit.
Peter Benston, CruiseCraft’s national sales and marketing manager, says there are a growing number of boaters who are demanding the benefits associated with a hardtop offshore fishing boat: “Not only does it make fishing and boating more comfortable, it can greatly extend the fishing season for many anglers,” Benston says.
While the hardtop costs slightly more than the traditional SST bimini targa canopy, customers choosing the new style will also get Electric Auto-Retract Trim Tabs as part of the option upgrade.
