South East Queensland boaties are revelling in the fact that the Ramada Couran Cove Island Resort on South Stradbroke Island off the Gold Coast has thrown out the welcome mat at its protected marina.
The resort, which first opened in 1998, was purchased by Brisbane businessman Craig Dowling in late 2012, and is now ready to accept boats to enjoy its delights.
"The previous owners had been reluctant to encourage boaties to visit the resort, but we are the exact opposite and want as many people as possible to come in in their boats and enjoy the resort," he said.
Since his purchase, Mr Dowling and his team have spent 12 months and several million dollars "polishing the jewel" and it is now about to be marketed nationally and internationally.
"With the branding of the resort as a Ramada and the refurbishment and upgrades that have been undertaken we will finally see Couran Cove reveal its full potential," Mr Dowling says.
"It gives me a great deal of satisfaction to see the marina full of boats and the owners enjoying our facilities," he added.
The marina at the resort comprises 74 protected berths capable of accommodation vessels in excess of 85ft in length.
Under the new ownership, boaties who wish to visit the resort for lunch are provided with a free berth. Those who wish to stay for the entire day pay $50 and then get a $25 voucher towards food and beverage purchases.
Those who wish to stay overnight and hook up to power and water pay $100 and then get a $50 voucher for food and beverage.
"They can use all the facilities of the resort including the swimming pool, the restaurant, the nature walk through the rainforest and the coffee shop," Mr Dowling said.
"We aim to make Couran Cove the most family friendly resort in Queensland and for all our friends with boats that means the welcome mat is permanently out."
He said boaties entering the resort need to call the phone number on signs at the entry and they would be directed to the appropriate arm and berth for their size vessel. They then need to register at reception.
