Countdown to the Sydney International Boat Show

For six exciting days, from July 31 to August 5, Darling Harbour will become the headquarters of the Australian boating industry as the 2008 Sydney International Boat Show clicks into top gear

The Sydney International Boat Show, which first ran in 1968, has now become the most recognised boating event in the southern hemisphere, with the largest visitor numbers of any boat show in Australia. The unrivalled success of the Sydney Show attracts audiences from local to interstate and international. Last year nearly 82,000 people visited, with the previous record attendance being 93,501.

More than 300 exhibitors comprising the major boat manufacturers, engine distributors, marine electronics specialists, marine retailers and other suppliers will pack the 28,000m² of the Darling Harbour Exhibition Centre with millions of dollars worth of everything marine.

On adjoining Cockle Bay, an 800m marina - the largest ever assembled specifically for an Australian boat show - will showcase 300 or more luxury craft, ranging from runabouts and sportsfishing rigs through to luxury mega yachts with multi-million dollar price tags.

As usual, the show offers an array of entertainment, with the Yamaha Fishing Clinic expected to again play to standing room-only audiences, daily fashion parades featuring the latest in nautically-inspired sportswear and the Strictly Sail and Better Boating stage with a line-up of interesting and informative guest presenters covering a whole host of subjects.

Many of the nation's leading boatbuilders will be launching new vessels not seen before on NSW waterways.

Admission prices for the 2008 show remain unchanged at $18 adult, $42 family ticket (two adults and up to three children aged from six to 17 years), $16 for seniors card holders, $12 for pensioner card holders, and $10 for children aged from six to 17 years. Children under five years are admitted free.

The 2008 Sydney International Boat Show will be open from 10am to 8pm daily for visitors to the six halls of the exhibition centre and from 10am to 6pm on the Cockle Bay Marina.

Public transport buses, light rail, ferries and the Sydney suburban rail network service the venue, plus motorists will find ample car parking within a few minutes walk of the main entrance.
