All boaters know that anyone venturing offshore in a small boat is safest if they wear an approved personal floatation device, or PFD, at all times. Unfortunately many of us find wearing a life vest to be a real pain in the, ah, chest.
Quicksilver has developed a new inflatable "PFD1" jacket that is designed to be both safe and effective and comfortable enough to wear all day.
They say it doesn't cut into the back of your neck, rub your shoulders or scratch your skin -- just some of the complaints levelled at the old "foam brick" style PFDs.
The Quicksilver PFD sits better across the neck and shoulders and has a padded neoprene collar as well as extended length. All these features add up to a far more comfortable products.
With everyone in Victoria venturing out in a boat under 4.8 metres now being required to wear a PFD, all day wear will be a reality for many families this summer and beyond.
"PFDs are there to save your life and the more comfortable they are, the happier people will be to put them on and keep them on," Quicksilver's accessories director, Paul McLean, says.
The new Quicksilver PFD meets Australian Standards AS 1512 for personal flotation and is approved for use in all Australian states and New Zealand.
It also comes in a re-usable, breathable plastic bag so it can be safely stored away between uses. Quicksilver website.
