This high profile, high-octane sporting event will hit the mid-north coast on August 30-31 as the second round to be held in NSW.
Offshore Superboat Championships (OSC) President, Graham Fraser, said it is great to have Coffs Harbour on the race calendar again this year.
"The town has so much to offer, presenting the perfect arena for fans and spectators alike with a looping course that stretches from the harbour past the eastern break wall and seaward of Pig Island. You can expect us to create quite a spectacle," he said.
Organisers said that Jetty Boating has come on board as the naming rights sponsor for the round and without the support from local residents and businesses including RMS, Coffs Harbour Marina, the Fish Co-op as well as the Coffs Council, the OSC would not be here again this year.
Saturday will see a Pole Position Shootout between 1.00pm and 2.00pm with two, 30-minute races on Sunday at 11.00am and 1.00pm with the Harbour closing fifteen minutes before each race.
"We’re racing in and out of the harbour so there is a fairly large sweeping turn inside of Coffs Harbour and the boats race out through the heads and turn to the south, then head south for about two to three kilometres. Each lap is about 10 kilometres and there’ll be up to 14 million-dollar-plus race boats, not to mention their rigs, which are just as impressive."
An FM transmitter channel will be set up for both days of racing so spectators can tune into 88.3FM to hear the commentary alongside the action.
The Meet and Greet held at the Coffs Harbour Yacht Club on the Friday night prior to racing is a great opportunity for the fans to catch up with the race teams.
Alternatively, spectators can visit the pits at the Marina to meet the drivers and see the boats up close. The teams are more than happy to answer any questions and share their passion for offshore racing.
Presentation and drinks will be held at the Coffs Harbour Deep Sea Fishing Club on Sunday night, with all welcome from 6.00pm.
