Cobia Boats, the respected Florida-based sportfisher brand, is making an assault on the Australian market via a new Sydney-based distributor headed by Rocky Tassone, a well-known marine electrician with a passion for boating and fishing.
Tassone has just landed three new Cobia models on our shores. The first shipment includes a 201 Centre Console with 150hp Yamaha, a 220 Centre Console with 200hp Yamaha, and the 220 Dual Console or bowrider model also with the Yamaha F200 four-stroke outboard.
Revered for its centre consoles from 20-34ft, and with a 21ft Bay Boat
and 22ft Dual Console model in the range, Cobia Boats are all CAD designed and built tough
for offshore saltwater use by the Maverick Boat Company, which also manufactures
Hewes, Maverick and Pathfinder shallow-water and flats-fishing craft.
Tassone, a keen Sydney sportfisher and boater, says the Cobia brand appealed due to its quality construction and
fit-out. All the boats are pre-rigged for Yamaha outboard power and made
especially for each customer.
The boats come on dual-axle alloy trailers, are backed 10 year warranty and are priced competitively compared with other US brands, Tassone says. Boat and motor packages for an 18ft centre console start at about $75k, plus trailer.
Tassone is well versed at setting up the boats for serious sportfishing, as this is his profession, and he's offering Raymarine and Simrad electronics packages to suit, custom sound systems, and as much fishing equipment as your budget allows.
"Each boat is built to order and fully customised in the factory for the buyer’s requirements. We’re looking forward to the summer ahead and giving the boats a workout.
"I’ve got a 261 Centre Console coming in six weeks. That will be the demonstrator and I’ll be giving it a good test as the game fishing season hots up," Tassone adds.
