After two years on the drawing board, Clipper Motor Yachts has announced the imminent arrival of its new range of lobster-style sedan cruisers.
Clipper’s managing director, Brett Thurley, initially began the design process as a collaboration with Mark Campion of Clipper. The idea was to create a beautifully-styled sedan with flared hull and tumblehome transom in the Newport, Rhode Island, tradition.
Labelled the Hudson Bay series, the new Clipper range will initially comprise of a 28ft, 34ft and 39ft model. Each boat has a traditional exterior profile, European internal flair and contemporary décor using classic Anigre wood cabinetry and trim. A choice of classic painted hull colours such as navy blue, silver and cream is available to personalise the craft.
"These superbly-styled vessels are crafted for the buyer who wants something with a little more class and individuality over the production sports cruiser," Mr Thurley said.
"We have chosen to have them built in a custom shipyard in Europe [Turkey] to ensure a finish of the highest hand-built quality befitting this style of vessel."
Each Hudson Bay features single diesel shaft-drive power and planing hulls for exceptional fuel economy and reliability between 20-24 knots.
The 34ft and 39ft offer an enclosed sedan layout with the galley upstairs on the same level as the cockpit.
Innovative features include a sunroof, extendable cockpit awning, spacious outdoor entertainment area with bbq, fridge and L-shaped outdoor seating with table.
These vessels also boast a world-first design feature -- an overhead rain shower with hot and cold mixer under the sedan roof to offer a true outdoor drenching apres morning swim or to freshen-up before dinner.
Two cabins have also been incorporated to accommodate a family with kids overnight.
Powered by new-generation Yanmar diesel electronic engines, the 34ft and 39ft models come fully equipped with a genset, air-conditioning, Raymarine touch-screen electronics, ultra-leather sofas and Corian bench tops as standard.
Pricing is $169,000 with Steyr 144hp diesel for the 28ft, $399,000 with Yanmar 320hp diesel for the 34ft and $499,000 for the 39ft with Yanmar 370hp diesel.
All three models will be unveiled and available to own this year. The world premier will be the Gold Coast Marine Expo in November.
