Clipper’s Hudson Bay 390 for harbour or bay cruising

The 'new generation' single-engine Hudson Bay luxury sedan is heading to Queensland

The shift from flybridge motoryacht to sedan cruiser has found another advocate with the first new-generation Hudson Bay 390 built by Clipper Motor Yachts heading to a Queensland couple on Bribie Island.

Described as the answer for boaties who don't need a flying bridge, the new 390 Hudson Bay can easily negotiate low-slung bridges to access home pontoons. It also has low draft, single Volvo D4 300hp as its base engine, and a full-length keel providing protection for the running gear.

Other standard features include Garmin 12in plotter and sounder, hopper-style window between aft galley and cockpit, bow thruster and side helm door.

"The Hudson Bay 390 is a big volume, semi-displacement cruiser, which is perfect for couples or young families.

"And with a base price of $549,000 it hits the sweet spot for a large section of the boating public," said Brett Thurley, the MD of Clipper Motor Yachts on the Gold Coast.

Thurley says the new 390 Hudson Bay could well be the perfect boat for cruising on Sydney Harbour or the waters of the Gold Coast and Moreton Bay.

"We think the Hudson Bay 390 will resonate well with Australian boaties, as we have focused on a beamy semi-displacement design and entertaining layouts.

"The single-level living and entertaining space is quite large and this has broad appeal."

SINGLE OR TWIN CABIN
With an overall length of 12.9m and a 4.0m beam, the 390 is said to be a big boat modelled along the same lines the Hudson Bay 540.

In either one- or two-cabin configuration, it’s also pitched in the sweet spot where a lot of 40ft sedan cruisers have long been popular with Aussie boaters.

In the single-cabin version, the toilet and shower are split on either side of the companionway to create bigger spaces. The twin-cabin option provides upper and lower bunks for children.

The cruiser has a panoramic sunroof standard and the galley features a full height domestic-style refrigerator. The cockpit features built-in lounges and a large dining table, Clipper says.

Adding to the outdoor space and teak decking is an optional hydraulic swim platform.

ITALIAN DESIGNER INTERIOR
The new 390 will feature a chic interior forged in a collaboration between acclaimed Italian designer Patrizio Facheris in the US and the Gold Coast-based Clipper Motor Yachts.

"This is a great entertainer’s boat, while the exterior has a bit of a retro look, the interior is ultra modern and has the hallmarks of the Italian flair that Patrizio is renowned for," said Thurley.

Clipper Motor Yachts has a range of Hudson Bay single level, semi-displacement cruisers stretching from 36 feet to 64 feet, each with a three-year warranty on the hull and five years on the engines.

"We expect quite a deal of interest in the Hudson Bay range at the upcoming Gold Coast Boating Expo in March and the Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show following that," Thurley said.
