At a recent media event in Melbourne, Whittley Marine Group boss Neville Whittley (pictured, left) said that the company is poised to invest funds to boost the Clearwater range.
The Clearwater range was born of the Savage range of fibreglass boats which were taken over Whittley and, for those in the know, some of the hulls and decks will look familiar.
"Recently in the boat industry we’ve been in survival mode, not R&D mode," Whttley said. "Now we are looking more towards the R&D side and part of that is to further develop the Celarwater range."
Whittley said currently the company is making around 50 Clearwaters per year. "We’re keen to develop the range; the dealerships are keen, so there’s definitely growth there."
The current range consists of both open and cuddy cabin boats which have been designed as entry-level fishing and family boats.
The range includes 1600, 1750, 1900 and 2150 cabin boats as well as the 1580 and 1840 runabouts.
Mr Whittley said that one of the first boats he would be looking at would be a walk-around. "We will be introducing more models of different design in the future and we will have a walk-around for example," he said.
Whittley will be continuing its association with Yamaha. "We’re very happy with Yamaha as our outboard supplier of choice," he said. "The customers like them and most of our dealers are with Yamaha, so we see no reason to change," he concluded.
