Classics Acknowledged At Hamilton Island Regatta

There's something new for the old when it comes to the classic yachts competing at this year's Audi Hamilton Island Race Week in late August

Following consultation with a number of owners, regatta organisers will include the classics in the Cruising Division. It's a move that will provide the most interesting and challenging racing, and the classic yachts won't be forgotten when it comes to the presentations. They will be competing for their own special award this year.

Organisers are already working towards a large fleet of classic yachts competing in their own division next year.

A range of changes on and off the water are being planned to bring a new feel to the 24th edition of the event sailed on the Queensland's Whitsunday Islands region between August 18 and 25.

This year sees German carmaker Audi sponsor the regatta for the first time. One of Audi's new initiatives has led to the creation of the four-event Audi IRC Australian Championship for ocean racing yachts.
