The 540F was introduced in 1997 as the replacement for the 530-532 series – and was one of the first Signatures with the variable deadrise and concave hull shape designed by the late John Haines.
The secret to the success of the 540F has been a combination of price, features and size. The boat has the capability of fishing out to around a dozen miles offshore, yet can be comfortably towed behind a family car.
The 540F has enough cockpit space for two or three anglers, along with a very useful low-profile cuddy cabin -- equipped with two near full-sized berths and provision for a chemical toilet.
Fishermen have embraced the 540F because it has a stack of fishing features, including high freeboard, wide side coamings, recessed coaming rails, a space-efficient single engine outboard well, along with a good sized live-bait tank built into the transom.
Seating comprises two pedestal chairs at the helm, along with an excellent fold down rear bench seat. A bigger, removable, and more luxurious-looking lounge is a popular option.
Of course, there is also the legendary Haines Signature ride. The 540F is one of the softest-riding fibreglass boats in its class, and stability at rest and underway is also very good.
