Cigarette Racing's AMG-inspired powerboat
Driven by a pair of 1350hp twin turbo Mercury Racing engines, this powerboat means businessMercedes-Benz has teamed up with Cigarette Racing to create a custom powerboat capable of reaching speed of more than 200km/h.
Exhibited at the 2010 Miami boat show in the US, the 46-foot long Rider, the donor vessel upon which this AMG-inspired boat is based, sells for around $US900,000 and takes roughly four months to build to a customer's specification level.
Cigarette Racing says the powerboat was inspired by the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG gullwing sports car, and its interior is a direct reflection of the German sports car, boasting a two-tone colour scheme with marine-grade materials that mimic those of the SLS AMG road car.
Several new features, such as a redesigned hull and numerous weight saving measures, will ensure the boat is both fast and manageable at high speed.
Even the exterior has been coated with the same silver colour used on the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG (AMG Alubem).
Work on the customised Rider began two years ago but unlike the 6.2-litre V8 beating away at the heart of the SLS AMG sports car, the Cigarette AMG Rider is powered by a pair of gargantuan 9.0-litre (552 cubic inches), twin turbo Mercury Racing engines.
These colossal engines develop slightly more than 1000kW each, so with peak output of more than 2000kW -- or around 2700hp in the old money -- it's no surprise this powerboat can eclipse 200km/h.
The Cigarette Racing 46-foot Rider has not yet been tested in the water and will be flown around the globe for various exhibitions and shows for most of 2011 before it's either sold or used as a promotional vessel.
And no, the boat doesn't come with the car. Or vice versa.
