Chris Craft has drawn inspiration from the Great Gatsby era of the 1920s to launch its new breed of bowriders, with the first model being the Carina 21 due here for a Sydney International Boat Show launch in August.
While the Carina 21 is the perfect tender to a luxury super yacht, there is a recent trend emerging where more boat buyers are choosing smaller elegant and sophisticated dayboats over big cruisers.
Steve Hannes, Dealer Principal of local Chris Craft dealers Premier Marine, couldn’t agree more.
"We’ve noticed our sales increasing in the range of 20-28 foot boats in Sydney, as most of our clients prefer to have a comfortable and luxury-infused cruise around the Harbour, pull up at a secluded cove, have a picnic and then head back to the comfort of their own home," Hannes says.
"With the financial outlay being considerably less than a big cruiser, boating connoisseurs are choosing the performance, fun and excitement that a Chris Craft promises during their dayboat adventures, not to mention the head-turning factor of owning the most iconic boat brand in the world," he added.
The styling of the Carina 21 will be used throughout the range of 21 to 25ft bowriders. Notable innovations include the absence of the windshield frame for the walk-thru.
In addition, the graphite-grey colour is standard, replacing the iconic midnight blue with Riviera-red bootstripe as the new colour of choice. Silvertex upholstery is another new offering from Chris Craft and is said to be highly effective in protecting the upholstery from staining and abrasion.
A standard Carina 21 is optioned with the Mercruiser 260hp 5.0-litre engine and comes with the following features:-
- Ski locker
- Towing pylon
- Helm and companion seats
- Teak swim platform
- Power steering
- Stainless steel bow plate
The first motorboat ever built in the world, in 1874, Chris Craft has been the choice of Hollywood heroes including Katharine Hepburn, Dean Martin and Elvis Presley. Closer to home, we’ve seen Hugh Jackman and Russell Crowe cruising on the 28 Corsair on Sydney Harbour.
