Chinese patrol boat visits

The MV Haixun 01 to stopover in Australia

China’s largest and most advanced patrol vessel, the MV Haixun 01, will be visiting Australia to coincide with the Asia-Pacific Heads of Maritime Safety Agencies (APHoMSA) forum, hosted by the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA), in Cairns from July 1-4.

The Haixun 01 is the first Chinese patrol vessel to simultaneously incorporate marine inspection and rescue functions. The vessel has been designed to carry out maritime inspection, safety monitoring, rescue, and oil spill detection and handling. The Haixun 01 can accommodate 200 people rescued at sea and can sail an impressive distance of 10,000 nautical miles before refueling.

Prior to visiting Cairns, the Haixun 01 was docked in Sydney in order to meet with Australian Government officials and engage in a joint search and rescue desktop exercise with AMSA’s Rescue Coordination Centre (RCC Australia) in Canberra.
