China proves important market for Australian marine exporters

Australian marine exporters have found China to be an important sales market at the conclusion of the China International Boat Show in Shanghai last month, said the Australian International Marine Export Group (AIMEX)

"The potential for sales is huge in China," said AIMEX chief executive, Mary Anne Edwards.

Twelve AIMEX members exhibited in the Australian pavilion while numerous other members visited the show.

MultiPanel managing director, Tony Russo, said his company had enjoyed success at the 2008 event selling several containers of stock. The company had also appointed a distributor in China.

Mustang Marine's new CEO, Chris Heaton, and marketing consultant, Jan Den Braber, were at the show to support their dealer. Mustang, a leading Australian boat manufacturing company, has developed a presence in China over six years.

The company believes it is bearing the fruits of longer-term marketing efforts in the region, said AIMEX.

Richard Chapman, AIMEX director and managing director of Coursemaster and HyDrive, said: "The Country of Honour status at last year's show gave Australia significant exposure and profile - we should reap the rewards from this in coming years."
