Charges laid over spectacular Hope Harbour Marina fire

Three men to face court after five boats are damaged in a suspicious fire at Hope Harbour

Police have charged three men over a spectacular boat fire at Hope Harbour earlier this month.

Queensland Police allege a number of people were seen throwing petrol onto one of the boats moored at the John Lund Drive location before setting it alight around 11.15pm on June 2.

The fire, which spread to a number of vessels, left five boats with varying degrees of fire and heart damage.

A 33-year-old Dugandan man was charged with three counts of arson and one count each of attempted fraud, enter premises with intent to commit an indictable offence and endanger property by fire.

He is due to appear in the Southport Magistrates Court on August 26.

Two other men from Fernvale, aged 21 and 25, were charged with three counts of arson and one count each of enter premises with intent to commit indicatable offence and endanger property by fire.

Both men will appear in the Southport Magistrates Court on August 10.
