Following the 2014 release of the all-new Vortex Jet Boat Range from Chaparral, the company has developed a world-first wake enhancement system that transforms the jet propulsion unit into a fully-adjustable surf wave.
Taking out a coveted innovation award at the recent Miami boat show, chaparral says that the new system has the entire industry talking.
"The lighter engines and drive units associated with jet boats in the past usually means smaller wakes, which is great for skiing, but not ideal for wake boarding or surfing," said Scott O’Hare from Chaparral Australia. "Now the new 'Aerial Surf Platform' or ASP from Chaparral changes all of that.
"It works with via a combination of three ballast tanks and a patented fixed surf platform that lowers into the water and reshapes the jet stream directly from the propulsion pump, offering a fully-adjustable wake," he said.
The ASP is available on Chaparral’s all new 223 and 243 Vortex twin-jet bowriders and integrates into the existing swim platform to provide a bigger wake for surfing or wake boarding. O’Hare says: "A big advantage of surfing behind a jet is the safety aspect with no propellers, but the small wake when ASP is not in use, is ideal for advanced slalom or beginner skiers particularly with the optional twin 250hp engines. The superior handling and lower draft offered by jet boats will expand your options when searching for the best water to wakeboard or surf in," he said.
