With an incredible month of festivities planned, including free berthing deals for visitors, happy hour on Fridays and Saturdays, boating events and a massive raft-up party, The Anchorage, in Williamstown, Victoria, is the place to be in October.
Founded in 1891 as Parson’s Boat Shed and Marina, the iconic location on The Strand has changed very little over such a long period of time. The Restaurant was opened in the 70s and became known as The Anchorage, with the O’Hare family purchasing the site in 1983.
The marina underwent a total rebuild in 2005 to a state-of-the-art 97-berth floating marina, and the restaurant has just completed a total makeover in time for the big celebrations.
With its unique location as the most northern marina in Port Phillip Bay, The Anchorage offers direct access to the bay from its prime situation at the mouth of the Yarra River.
The marina manager Scott O’Hare said it's all about the position: "Boating in Melbourne is all about taking advantage of the weather conditions when you can, so it's important for boat owners to make the most of their limited leisure time. From The Anchorage, within 10 minutes of stepping on board, owners can be cruising across the bay to a favourite location, or on their way up-river towards the city.”
Historic Williamstown offers a whole range of shops, restaurants and activities; and is only 20 minutes from the CBD.
The Anchorage marina offers free parking, free wireless internet, remote-access security system and is renowned for its social, friendly atmosphere.
"We are excited about our month-long birthday bash in October and invite everyone in Melbourne to come and join in the fun," said Mr O'Hare.
"Boat clubs, previous berth holders, new visitors and trailer boat owners are all welcome,” says O’Hare. "We'll have all sorts of things going on with dock parties, door prizes and giveaways, try boating days, kids events and special deals such as 20 percent off meals at the restaurant.”
