The new high-performance Catana 47 has been launched to international acclaim and will soon be turning heads in Australia.

Replacing the Catana 471, the new Catana features improved performance and an innovative design, and the company terms it "the perfect vessel for extended passages or world cruising".

This new model is almost 700kg lighter than its predecessor with carbon fibre used as standard for the main partitions, roof and numerous structural supports.

The Catana 47 provides exhilarating sailing with the power to maintain high average speeds over long distances. Clocked at almost 25 knots during its initial trials, the catamaran is said to be fast, light, robust and remarkably easy to handle, giving both the helmsman and guests an unforgettable experience.

The interior design by Linea Concept exudes a warm and inviting ambience with wengue floors and clear panelling.

With its three cabins, in the owner’s version, the Catana 47 can accommodate up to six people on a long voyage. Its spacious interior offers an excellent standard of comfort for a round-the-world trip, whether you sailing single-handed or with a crew.

Another key benefit of the Catana 47 is the generous headroom under the nacelle, making it comfortable at high speed regardless of the sea conditions. This contributes to the boat’s unique static and dynamic stability, making it easy for the helmsman to control the sails even in high winds.

The instruments are all located in the cockpit, with the toerails, lifelines and handrails designed for easy, unrestricted movement and to avoid an awkward stumble in heavy weather or when sailing single-handed.

Tacking, reefing and handling the daggerboards are much easier as a result, particularly with the help of electric winches. Crossing the ocean is plain sailing -- even on a solo voyage.

The first Catana 47 will arrive in Australia in March and will be on display at the Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show (May 24-27) and the Sydney International Boat Show in August.

The Catana 47 is priced from $995,000 (sail away) with fully-optioned models available from $1.2 million.
